  36. When I was in Calgary, a local ham John, VE6KQ, insatalled a VHF 1200bps
  37. regenerative packet repeater (DCD to key the repeater, so strictly packet)
  38. and it made a tremendous improvement to the packet activity in Calgary. 
  39. Actually made the mode usable!  I think someone quoted a four-fold improvement
  40. in throughput.  It certainly has it's advantages over a simplex system ...

  67. The 19.2kB repeater has been working so well in Dayton that we're looking at 
  68. expansion to add a more user-oriented repeater.  Our first thoughts were 
  69. 1200 baud on 2M, but now we're leaning toward 1200 and/or 9600 on UHF.

  71. A coupla questions:

  73. 1)  In a moderately large metro area, does a 1200 baud 2M system get 
  74. saturated quickly?  We were concerened that we'd get great coverage, but 
  75. that the thing would be 100% busy.
  76.  
  77. 2)  Has anyone successfully run both 1200 and 9600 on the same repeater 
  78. system?  I seem to recall something about this, but can't put my finger on 
  79. the details.  I hate the idea of investing in a 1200 baud-
  80. only system...

  95. It would be simple to implement but it would also recreate just the
  96. problem we are trying to avoid: hidden stations.  The 1200 b/s stations
  97. would not detect 9600 b/s activity and visa-versa.

  108.     I don't know any of the details, but we have a 2m rpt in the LA area
  109.     that handles both 1200 bps and 9600 bps.  At least I think so.  I don't
  110.     have 9600 on the air yet.  The call is wb6ymh and I bet you could find
  111.     out the particulars with a packet mail to wb6ymh@wb6ymh.#soca.ca.usa.na.
